This is important because we are fighting against institutions that implement and uphold the ideals of racism. We need to stop black people from being wrongfully convicted and killed by police due to the color of their skin. Fighting alongside us would mean siding with racial equality! This is all about achieving racial equality within our societies by fighting against the oppressive institutions that uphold racism.
Thank you for taking an interest in joining our supportive community! Use the following steps to learn and do more.
- BE INCLUSIVE: Understand that by supporting Black Lives, you are also
supporting ALL BLACK LIVES. This includes all subcategories that
encapsulate black people such as the LGBTQ+ community, trans lives,
women, men, and children.
- USE YOUR VOICE: If you see an injustice taking place, witness a
microaggression, or see the blatant targetting of Black people, speak up
and correct people. Don't stay SILENT!
- READ, READ, READ! Read news articles, journals, stories, and books
about a wide variety of topics. There are plenty of podcasts, movies,
and videos that are also becoming increasingly accessible and cover
important topics such as systemic racism, the Jim Crow Laws, redlining,
and more! All is readily available on our site!!
- START A CONVERSATION: Be willing to have difficult conversations with
your friends and family about different biases, prevalent issues, and
how you may be contributing to these issues. Make it a conversation and
be understanding that their responses are not personal to you.
- POLICY CHANGES: Delve into the various policies that are in place at a
local level that may be contributing to racist tendencies. (Ex.
School-to-Prison Pipeline,
- REMEMBER: It's okay to make mistakes. Be willing to educate yourself,
make mistakes, and learn from those mistakes. It's a process.
